Job Description
The Compliance and Safeguarding officer role is to support BSC Education in ensuring that we meet or exceed all compliance regulations and our duty of care to all.  The role incorporates compliance and safeguarding elements such as; UKVI requirements including attendance and engagement monitoring, Inspections from accrediting bodies (E.g. British Council, PFE(ISI) etc), involvement in audits, training and safeguarding advice.

Compliance related activities (Attendance, coordination of compliance across college, compliance and safeguarding updates, etc.). The role is managed by the Compliance and Safeguarding Manager. The role additionally covers operational need to support college teams with inspections, audits and to support in the management of additional projects or operations as required.


Duties:
Administration Management - Legislation and BSC College Policies

Compliance 
  • To support the review and update Group procedures accordingly with the support of the Commercial Director and Operations Directors.
  • To support the review and update the Group Compliance & Safeguarding Policy and related documents and input into other group policy documents as appropriate.
  • To support the Compliance and Safeguarding Manager and BSC colleges to ensure that their local compliance & safeguarding policies are in line with requirements and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • To support on any accreditation and local authority requirements in relation to compliance, safeguarding and inspection audits.
  • Working with the Compliance and Safeguarding Manager to ensure the serious incident reporting process is followed across colleges. 
  • Providing agents/students/sponsors with clear and concise confirmations and visa documents.
  • Support of CAS issuing for students.
  • Support in the management of additional projects as required.
  • To support and travel to other colleges to assist with auditing process and student intake as required.
  • To support in other areas of compliance such as operations, attendance, complaints and feedback. 
 
Attendance
  • Monitoring and coordinating the college team on monitoring attendance and punctuality across the student cohort and following up as required, ensuring that our internal processes align with the compliance needs of our external accreditors.
  • Ensure accurate records of student attendance are kept for all programmes in the college. 
Internal and External Communications
  • Help increase awareness of compliance & safeguarding matters internally and externally where appropriate through clear visibility of processes and clear communications
  • To attend Group Compliance & Safeguarding Committee meetings and ensure all agreed actions are followed up
  • To support the Compliance and Safeguarding Manager in offering advice and guidance to the Group on Safeguarding & Compliance matters, liaising with other bodies where necessary
Safeguarding and Recruitment
  • To support in the management safeguarding checks for all colleges to ensure compliance. 
  • To support the people and performance department where needed, carry out the audit o safeguarding elements and to make recommendations for, and where appropriate delivery of, training requirements.
  • To participate in the audit processes across the group to ensure that the appropriate documentation is being used in line with safeguarding requirements, including the safer recruitment of team members and homestays where agencies are not being used
  • To oversee a central record for safeguarding incidents and to make recommendations for, and, where appropriate delivery of, training requirements.
Training & Continuing Process Improvement
  • Provide advice relating to safeguarding, compliance and health & safety training and, where appropriate deliver, training across the group.  This includes the delivery and review of the BSC online basic awareness and prevent training and the development of other in-house training initiatives
  • To support with annual and interim organisation of training and admin related tasks.
 
 
 Cultural Change

  • Demonstrate and role model cultural values and bring them to life within the organisation
  • Collecting appropriate stories, photos and videos from the business demonstrating best practice and share them on Yammer and other appropriate channels

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • A good understanding of current student visa guidelines
  • Working knowledge of Tier 4 applications
  • Compliance & Safeguarding experience 
  • Ability to manage high volumes of enquiries by phone and email
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet required SLAs
  • Be approachable and a keen willingness to help both internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility to undertake new responsibilities and work in different ways to achieve our ultimate goal to be the best in the industry.
  • Experience and interest in working with other cultures
  • Ability to take ownership, problem solve and make decisions
  • Ability to manage workload and handle high volume of requests throughout the busy periods with a willingness to go above and beyond to get the job done
